While people have been sewing for the last 20,000 years, it is only in the last 150 years that we have been using a machine. Since the sewing machine has made mass production of clothing much less time consuming, people have turned clothing making in to a hobby rather than a necessity.

Embroidery is ancient in origin and has been practiced by a wide variety of cultures. Long have we placed great importance as well as associated affluence with intricate, highly decorated apparel and household items. Historically these embroidered items included tapestries and wall hangings, rugs, upholstery, household linens, church vestments, riding gear, uniforms and both men's and women's clothing.
